He Made Gay Marriage the Law of the Land. Now He’s Fighting a Larger War.
For Politico, written by Dylon Jones:
“Jim Obergefell doesn’t want to be here. Not in Washington, not anymore. Certainly not back on the steps of the United States Supreme Court. But he feels like he needs to be, at least for today. And so, 10 years after claiming victory here, making marriage equality the law of the land for gay people in all 50 states in a case bearing his last name, Obergefell has returned — not to celebrate a historic anniversary of a historic decision, but to protest the institution that wrote his name into American law.”

Erie County, where Sandusky is located, has swung for President Donald Trump in every presidential race since 2016.

After the decision, Obergefell attended President Barack Obama’s final State of the Union address as a guest of first lady Michelle Obama.

“I’m still trying to do what John asked me to do,” Obergefell says, “and find love again.”

Obergefell and Arthur’s silver wedding rings were fused together after Arthur died. A small square of gold glints inside the band, covering an inlaid trace of his ashes. |
